Finished off with club soda this drink isn’t too sweet but still packs a lot of flavor. Perfect if you want something nice and refreshing!

I love creating cocktails that use unique ingredients and this one’s no exception. If the taste isn’t enough, it also smells amazing… And the light, balanced flavour combination is perfect for an afternoon party or evening cocktail hour.

What Gin to Use in This Blueberry Cocktail?

Since gin is one of those spirits that really changes depending on the brand I thought I’d touch on it here. Although the strong taste of the blueberries, lavender, and basil do a lot to overpower any nuances in your gin it’s still important to pick one that has the right combination to make this cocktail really stand out.

For this cocktail choose a standard, well balanced gin. It should have hints of juniper (the standard gin flavour!) along with fruity and citrus notes. This isn’t a gin and tonic, so skip the London dry gin unless that’s your thing.

The gin I used is called Prospector Gin from a small distillery in Fernie, BC. Since you probably won’t be able to find it in your local liquor store here’s some other options:

  • Bombay Sapphire – a great all around gin for mixing cocktails that’s easy on the budget.
  • Beefeater – a bit bolder in the juniper but great if you really want that “gin taste” in your drinks.
  • Hendrick’s – one of the best out there for balanced gins that works in almost any cocktail.

How to Make a Lavender Blueberry Gin Smash Cocktail

Cocktail ingredients including gin, blueberry juice, lavender simple syrup, basil leaves, fresh lemons, and club soda.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces gin
  • 1 ounce blueberry juice
  • 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 ounce lavender simple syrup
  • 4-5 fresh basil leaves
  • Club soda or Sodastream
  • Fresh blueberries and basil sprig for garnish

Tip:

Cocktail ingredients up close including blueberry juice, lavender syrup, and gin.

Unlike regular simple syrup, lavender simple syrup takes a bit of work to make on your own. For that reason I prefer to just pick up a store-bought variety. Mine is from a local business but you can also find similar syrups on Amazon too.

Directions

  1. In a cocktail shaker, muddle the basil leaves, lemon juice, and simple syrup.
  2. Add gin, blueberry juice, and ice.
  3. Shake well, then strain into a glass filled with ice.
  4. Top with club soda and garnish with fresh blueberries and a basil sprig.
  5. Enjoy!
