It’s best known as the hometown of horror novelist Stephen King, who used the town as inspiration for the town of Derry, Maine in some of his books. Check the calendar before you drive out of the city to make sure they’re open – with the cold Maine winters, they usually close in the coldest months. But if you make it out there, try some of their award-winning wines and visit the art gallery on-site while enjoying your wine! They’ve put the Maine blueberries to good use in a few varieties of their wines.

This family-run vineyard, winery, and maple syrup producer is just a short drive out of Bangor, Maine. Visit their tasting room & gift shop to try some of their offerings. All of their wines are created from the grapes they’ve grown on their land, plus the blueberries and cranberries come from Downeast Maine.

Who knew that an old bank would become one of the neatest settings for a popular restaurant and bar? Boasting an impressive and well-priced wine list, Evenrood’s also offers outstanding American cuisine with options for all diners. There are TVs for the sporty diners and even a kids’ menu when you have to bring your young diners along as well.

More of a traditional wine shop, but you’ll still find unique tasting events and partnerships at the Bangor Wine & Cheese Company. Aside from the wine and cheese, you’ll find a curated selection of beers, ciders, sakes, meads, cured meats, and other beverage accessories. A great stop for a souvenir bottle or holiday gifts.

It’s highly likely if you’re dining at an Italian restaurant, they’ll have a wine list to match. Knowledgeable bartenders are on hand to guide you to the wines and cocktails that will best compliment your authentic Roman dishes. Charcuterie boards, plates of pasta, and meat dishes create a variety of options for any appetite.

If you’d rather partake in the craft brewery scene in Bangor, you have no shortage of options! Bangor is home to Bangor Beer Company, Black Bear Brewing, and Penobscot Brewery isn’t too far away either! With over a dozen breweries in the region, it is a destination for craft beer lovers as well. 

Bangor offers some old school architecture and streets and a new, growing food and beverage scene. Consider passing through Bangor on your way towards Acadia and Bar Harbor, but make sure to stop and enjoy some spooky sights and tasty treats along the way.
