Summer is here and if you’re looking for any way possible to cool off, a red wine milkshake might be just what you need. Why not mix two of your favorite treats into one? A sweet dessert wine is mixed with vanilla ice cream and garnished with chocolate syrup and shavings in this Red Wine Milkshake Recipe.

Now, instead of choosing between two of your vices, wine or ice cream, you can have them both in one dessert. This recipe proves you can mix anything with ice cream and it will still taste good. Ice cream on its own is yummy and a glass of red wine is always a nice treat.

Red Robin Red Wine Milkshake

The restaurant, Red Robin actually added their own version of this drink to their menu a few years ago. It was called the Divalicious Red Wine Shake and it came with a ridiculous “Little Black Dress” wine charm. Now, you can make your own red wine milkshake from the comfort of your own home.

Health Benefits of Red Wine

Red wine is full of antioxidants so it’s a nice excuse to pour yourself a glass. Now I wouldn’t say this milkshake is exactly healthy but if you’re going to have a glass of wine it might as well be red.

Can you mix dairy products with alcohol?

You might think that mixing wine with the ice cream would make it curdle. These two ingredients actually blend well together. Alcohol denatures the proteins present in milk. Since heavy cream has a much higher ratio of fat to protein, it will be much more stable than say, milk in a cocktail.

Red Wine Milkshake Recipe

The nice thing about this recipe is that you can modify it to your own tastes. Imagine how it would taste with chocolate or caramel ice cream? Maybe you could add some fresh fruit or whipped cream on top? Don’t be afraid to experiment with other types of wine or alcohol either. Honey mead or white wine could be equally delicious.

This recipe makes a great treat for two. Whip one up for your sweetheart or your bestie. If you need to make milkshakes for the whole gang just use a ratio of 2:1 ice cream to wine.

  • 2 cups of vanilla ice cream. Plus a few extra scoops for garnishing.
