On top of being one of Europe’s most beautiful cities, consisting of many small islands, Stockholm offers world class restaurants, sommeliers, and wine bars. I have picked out 7 of my favourite wine bars to try in Stockholm.

Combo Vinbaren

Combo Vinbaren is located in the city center in the part of Stockholm that’s called Odenplan. It is operated by experienced restaurateurs well accustomed to quality wines, wine trends and the wants and needs of the town. They are behind iconic Stockholm restaurants PA & Co and Bistro Sud.

This charming wine bar is small, but very intimate and personal. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and the Combo Vinbar carries a quite impressive wine list covering most parts of the wine world. ALL wines on the list are offered by the glass. Combo furthermore offers superb food on a small but clever menu. It is frequented by a good mix of locals as well as passers-by and the occasional tourist. Due to the use of the splendid invention Coravin, it is possible to get to try some real rare and exclusive wines here. Don’t miss it!

Dryck Vinbar

A water hole yet not discovered by any others than the local Stockholmers. Located on the south island, ”Söder” not far from Mariatorget it is a haven for artists, musicians and wine connoisseurs. Warm colors, charming service, cute interior and a well stocked wine cellar to support the ambitious wine list. This is a former ecological grocery store and noodle bar established in 2010. Today Carro Tallving and the team are pouring honest, well crafted wines very reasonably priced. The bar menu holds snacks, finger food and small to mid size dishes complemented by cheese and cold cut platters.

Grus Grus

Grus Grus is a spin-off to neighbor landmark restaurant Tranan and works with craft wines and food that follow the seasons in a whimsical, relaxed atmosphere where everything can happen. Drink wines on obscure grapes from unknown areas throughout the evening or order a really classic bottle, what they all will have in common is that they are made by hand, with passion and respect for the nature, and the consumer. Many of the wines on the list are so called natural wines. Chef Louise Phalen and her team cook really tasty food with focus on ingredients that are in season. The menu includes snacks, smaller and larger dishes to share, all matched with wines selected by sommelier Patricia Dominguez. There is also cheese, chark and a blackboard that changes daily.

Gaston

There is no area in Stockholm more historical than the ”Old Town”, ”Gamla Stan” where the cozy wine bar Gaston is located. These blocks are where Sweden’s pride, famous poet Carl Michael Bellman would hang out to play the guitar and drink absinth in the mid-18th century. But the old city wall and cobblestone streets whisper tales in the dark from all the way back to the year 1187 when the city was founded. Today curious wine novices crowd here at Gaston Wine Bar together with sommeliers, wine professionals and locals. The interior is clean and classy using Swedish materials like birch wood. Also copper and marble adds to a somber, cool look. On top of world class wines the friendly personel serve lovely snacks(don’t miss the gougéres) and dishes on a well crafted menu that suits most visitors.

Corvina Enoteca

Fun and happening railroad shaped wine bar Corvina Enoteca is also located in the old, mysterious parts of Stockholm- Gamla Stan. The focus is Italian food and wine but you can still botanize on an ever changing wine list that displays pearls from all over the world. The atmosphere is kind, folksy, lively and you always get a great laugh out of a visit. Everyone is comfortable in this warm environment.

Kungsholmens Vinbar

This rather new wine bar is like a hidden treasure on the island Kungsholmen in the western parts of Stockholm. It is easy to miss and walk on by but well inside you will not regret the break. And even though it is easy to miss, it seems the Stockholmers have found it just fine. It is often packed and warm and not entirely sure you will find a chair. But Kungsholmens Vinbar is oozing with an easy go lucky attitude. A family affair, you feel immediately at home and comfy in this small but stylish oasis. Moderate pricing, generous glasses and a wide range of craft wines is obviously doing the trick and owner Pamela  and her team are serving wide smiles and hearty portions of home cooking. .

Folii

Folii wine bar is located on the south island, Söder, and perhaps not right in the city center. But it well worth a visit in the south east parts of Stockholms artsy and quaint quarters with its experienced, professional and driven owners with clear and great visions. This establishment already achieved among others, a mention in Guide Michelin. f you are looking for a craftmanship this is the place. Choose from original and tasty Cocktails, small well composed dishes or, naturally, wine from all over the world. These are served as 1/2 glass, 1/1 glass, half bottle or 1/1 bottle. Wine tastings are offered regularely on many different themes together with other fun events.
