The thing is that Okanagan wine country is the most stunning place you will ever hear of. It is an unbelievable wine region. You just can’t taste the sweetness of this region unless you go there. Seriously, Okanagan wines just don’t travel far from the apple tree, or should I say grape vine. Add to this that camping in Canadian wine country will give you memories to last a lifetime.

I love wine, and I love camping. I love the unique tastes of Okanagan wine, but I also love the breathtaking views of the valleys and the chirps of the birds waking me up in the morning. So, when I found out I could combine my two favorite past times, I was in wino heaven!

Camping in Canadian Wine Country

Here are 7 places to go camping in Okanagan wine country that you have to visit!

#1 Desert Gem RV Resort

Desert Gem RV| Camping in Canadian Wine Country

If you are too prissy (just kidding) to go primitive, the Desert Gem RV Resort is a great way to camp without sleeping with a stick up your butt. Sites are fairly cheap, but book up fast, so you will want to book early.

Situated on the only desert in Canada, visitors flock to this location to see its breathtaking views, and, well, have some wine too. Desert Gem is in Oliver a beautiful town in Okanagan with TWENTY, yes I said it right, TWENTY local wineries. Not only do you get wine tours, but there is live music and special events throughout the year.

The resort is also the perfect place for other activities including:

  • Sightseeing
  • Animal watching
  • Golfing
  • Hiking
  • Skiing
  • Water fun

This is definitely a place you want to check out!

#2 Apple Beach RV Park

Apple Beach RV Park

Camping with kids can be a nightmare! The whining, crying, and begging for electronics can make a camping adventure become a scene from a scary movie. But, Apple Beach RV Park is a family run RV park and campground making your stay much less scary.

You can always pitch a tent, but if you want to prevent your kids from having withdrawals, you might consider the RV park. Either way, Apple Beach offers great family friendly fun. With a safe beach only 3-feet deep, you won’t have to worry about the kiddos while you sip your wine.

Because it’s only 1-mile from Riverstone Winery and 2-miles from Jackson Triggs Winery, you can put the kids safely to bed and travel on over for a wine tasting experience you won’t want to miss.

#3 Gallagher Lake Cottage & RV Resort Campground

Gallagher Lake Cottage| Camping in Canadian Wine Country

If you don’t have an RV, but don’t like the primitive tent camping, Gallagher Lake Cottage & RV Resort Campground is the perfect place for a retreat from everyday life. Since it is in Oliver, you have twenty wineries you can visit. Now, we don’t recommend doing them all in one day, but to each their own.

In addition to the many wineries around the area, tenting sites and RV sites, the resort rents charming camping cabins that are the perfect place for you to relax and unwind with the family. Gallagher offers something for the whole family including:

  • Private sandy beaches with crystal clear water
  • Hiking and biking trails
  • Sports field
  • 2 playgrounds for the kiddos
  • Beach volleyball
  • Horseshoe pits
  • Picnic areas

This is one of my favorite places to visit.

#4 Inkaneep Provincial Park for Camping in Canadian Wine Country

Inkaneep Provincial Park for Camping in Canadian Wine Country

For the procrastinators in the house, Inkaneep Provincial Park usually has sites available even during peak periods. This is great for people like me who either forget to book a place, or decide to get out of town at the spur of the moment.

Inkaneep is best suited for the primitive in nature and smaller RVS. Most sites can not accommodate large RVs or 5th wheel trailers, so keep that in mind. Of course, if you plan on visiting some of the many wineries in the area, all you need is a tent to crash in after your day of intricate wine drinking.

#5 Lakeside Resort (The Motel and RV Resort)

Lakeside Resort (The Motel and RV Resort)

Have you ever went camping and then realized you are too old for this crap, but can’t back out because, well, you are in the middle of no whereville? What I like about Lakeside Resort (The Motel and RV Resort) is that they not only offer RV camping, but they also offer suites and cabanas! So, when your back starts aching from the RV mattress, and you just need a comfortable bed, it’s right there. Or, you can just start out with the comfortable bed.

Lakeside is located in Oliver which means you have access to twenty wineries. Take your time because you won’t want to miss the unique tastes of the wines found at each place. Along with a wine tasting tour, you can enjoy the following activities:

  • Swimming at sandy beaches
  • Canoe and Kayaking
  • Golfing
  • Horse stables
  • Biking, Hiking, or walking the trail

Lakeside is truly a home away from home, and a great place to stay during your wine travels.

#6 Maple Leaf Motel & RV Campground

Maple Leaf Motel & RV Campground

Another great place for those who want the feel of camping without actually camping is Maple Leaf Motel & RV Campground. You can snag a newly renovated motel room with a kitchenette. Or, you can pitch a tent or bring your RV to the campground.

Even if you choose to camp, Maple Leaf offers you a sparkling clean, beautiful outdoor pool. So, you don’t have to worry about the fish nibbling at your toes. There is also free WIFI throughout the motel and the grounds. This means if you bring the kiddos, they won’t have to go through technology withdrawals.

Close to over twenty wineries, fire pits, and family fun, this is a great place to camp in Okanagan wine country.

#7 NK’MIP Campground & RV Park

NK’MIP Campground & RV Park

With beautiful flowing weeping willow trees throughout the park, Pocahantas’ grandmother really comes to life! NK’MIP Campground & RV Park is South Okanagan’s largest parks and sits triumphantly on the shores of Osoyoos, the warmest lake in Canada. NK’MIP offers over 350 sites ranging from primitive camping to full service RV stalls. There is also a cabin selection as well.

When you visit NK’MIP, you also get free WIFI, a clubhouse, indoor pool, hot tub, and the campground store.
