Garnish Tips

Lastly, we have garnish. For this recipe we recommend sliced lime, lemons, pineapples, and maraschino cherries. Any of these fruits would work. Mix into the drink or place on the side of the glass. Using frozen fruit is also an option if you don’t happen to have fresh on hand. Whatever you decide your tiki time cocktail is sure to be delicious!

Tiki Time Mocktail Idea

Turning our tiki time cocktail into a mocktail is simple and still very tasty. First you need to replace your dark rum. A very simple way of doing this is by adding molasses with a few drops of almond extract. Replacing the same amount of rum with molasses, so in this case 2 oz total. 2 to 3 drops of almond extract will be more than enough. Add 2.5 oz total of pineapple juice instead of 2 oz since you are replacing pineapple rum in this recipe. Everything else will remain the same! If you would rather not use molasses try coke with a few drops of vanilla. The flavor profile will change but it works very well as a mocktail. If you want to have an even more authentic rum taste check out our recipe below for homemade non-alcoholic dark rum!

Recipe for Homemade Non-Alcoholic Dark Rum

Adding molasses and almond extract works in a pinch, but if you are having a large party consider making a batch of homemade non-alcoholic dark rum! It doesn’t take long and guests will be impressed with the added effort.

To make your non-alcoholic rum:

  1. Combine ⅔ cup of boiling water, ¼ cup of raisins, 2 tablespoons butter, 4 teaspoons molasses, and a pinch of salt in a bowl.
  2. Submerge 1 black tea bag in water mixture for 4 minutes.
  3. Refrigerate for 1 hour to let flavors blend. Strain and use in place of dark rum.

It’s surprising how much this tastes like rum. Try it out!
